David Bielkheden

By Asgard • Jul 16th, 2008 • Category: Interviews, Reports

He has fought in organizations all over Europe and Asia, including PRIDE, Shooto and most recently UFC. Lets find out what’s up with David Bielkheden.

Asgard: What have you been up to lately?
David: Coming back from UFC I stayed in Sweden for a week. Then I went to Rio for vacation. You know Rio is my second home and I have many friends over there.

Asgard: What can you tell us about the fight with Diego Sanchez?
David: I got the fight on a short notice (4 weeks). So the time to prepare was not enough. I injured my leg; so I couldn’t train enough, caught a cold and didn’t feel 100%. Still, when I entered the octagon, I was relaxed. I wanted to fight. Anyway, as you could see I was not there mentally.

Asgard: What is your impression for UFC?
David: Dana White is nice. Their business is very professional.

Asgard: What is going on at BTT (Brazilian Top Team) nowadays?
David: Vitor Pimenta helped me much. I have so many good sparring partners there. Luiz “Buscape” Firmino is awesome.

Asgard: What about Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares?
David: He is incredible. Toquinho have a really tight game, usually dragging you down and take your back. And that’s it. Man, you can’t do much against him. I have sparred with him but he is very heavy. I heard that Toquinho might face Dan Henderson in UFC 88. Interesting fight indeed!

Asgard: What is your next fight? How do you prepare?
David: I will go down to Light Weight Class (from 170 lbs. to 155 lbs). It is not the first time I have cut weight this way. I did it before the fight against Ishida in -73kg. That went quite ok. I don’t know yet but I will go in UFC 88 or 89 [rumors are that David Bielkheden vs. Jess Liaudin will happen at UFC 89]. I really want to show my potential. I have good strikes and kicks, wrestling is ok and my GnP is good too. So what I need to do is just to release them out. I am in professional mental training program in Sweden. They take care of professional athletes as tennis players, football players, golf players and the others.

Asgard: And now you are back from Florida…
David: I stayed for 12 days in Florida and trained at ATT [American Top Team]. It is like the biggest training gym ever. In 2400 m2 they have 2 octagons, 1 square ring, a big wrestling mat, a yoga room and many facilities. There are like 50 pro fighters and 25 BJJ black belts as well. And I know many of the members through BTT. This time I met Marcus Aurelio. He is going to open a new gym in South Beach with Tiago Alves. I am going visit their gym soon.

Asgard: Thank you for your time, David.
David: Thank you!
